Eastern Front Theatre’s 2017 STAGES Theatre Festival presents an impressive array of live theatre from May 15-27 in downtown Halifax, with a packed schedule of new plays, workshops, theatre for families and world premieres.

The STAGES Festival presents shows at different stages of development, from workshops and play-readings to full productions and EFT’s Artistic Producer, Jeremy Webb, announced the full line up of 15 shows and events this morning in downtown Halifax.

Tickets are available through Ticket Halifax (www.tickethalifax.com), with prices ranging from $free-$25; they’re available in person at The Coast (2309 Maynard Street).

Performances take place in the Sir James Dunn Theatre, The Killam Library, The Company House, The BusStop Theatre, and The Waiting Room (Almon St). With a Flash Card for $30 patrons can see any three show/events (subject to availability.

STAGES best exemplifies Eastern Front Theatre’s mandate to nurture, support and develop Atlantic Canadian stories by Atlantic Canadian artists.  “There is definitely something for everyone in this year’s Festival,” says EFT’s Artistic Producer, Jeremy Webb.  “I am so proud that we have attracted some of Nova Scotia’s heavy-hitters to join us.”

The Festival’s opening night gala performance is Mulgrave Road Theatre’s production of Tara Reddick’s play, The West Woods.

Other MainSTAGES productions include Meghan Hubley’s Treegirl (Forerunner Theatre,) Jake Willet’s play Les & Dawn (LunaSea Theatre) and, running through the entire festival, Zuppa Theatre’s new show: The Archive of Missing Things, written by Zuppa Theatre and Kate Cayley.

The Festival turns the spotlight on young people and adults with diverse abilities in The Quest Fantastic, produced by The Club Inclusion (working with theatre mentors Karen Bassett and Justin McGarragh), a production giving public voice to the message of what ability means.

Forerunner Playwrights’ Theatre are back this year with their pitch session (Pitch-It) in which emerging and established Nova Scotian playwrights present their works in progress to an audience– with one of them winning $1,000 cash and a development deal!
