Theatre Nova Scotia announces nominations for the 2017 Robert Merritt Awards!

Throughout 2016, audiences across the province were treated to over 50 theatre productions.

Halifax:  The Theatre Nova Scotia annual Merritt Awards celebrate excellence in Nova Scotia professional theatre over the past year. Nominations were announced today in 15 categories. Winners will be revealed at the Robert Merritt Awards gala on Monday, March 27th, 2017 at 7pm at Casino Nova Scotia’s Schooner Room.

Theatre Nova Scotia is proud to promote the talents and creativity of the companies and individual theatre practitioners working in this province. From original works to classical repertoire, there is a vibrant theatre community in Nova Scotia.

Throughout 2016, audiences enjoyed such shows Women Beware Women, Unconscious at the Sistine Chapel, Stones in his Pockets, Vigil, Mary Celeste by Fire, As You Like It and After Eepersip Disappeared to name only a small portion of the productions by our professional company members. Nova Scotians attended shows by Ship’s Company Theatre [Parrsboro], Chester Playhouse [Chester], Festival Antigonish Summer Theatre [Antigonish], Highland Arts Theatre [Sydney], Rolling Bold Productions, Kick At The Dark Theatre, Villain’s Theatre, [Halifax], Two Planks and a Passion Theatre [Canning], Valley Summer Theatre [Wolfville], and many more. We encourage Nova Scotians and visitors to enjoy all that our theatres have to offer in 2017!

Produced by Jeremy Webb, the Theatre Nova Scotia Merritt Awards event is a night of celebration. Our talented host will be revealed as part of the opening number of the evening. In addition to the nominees announced today, Theatre Nova Scotia will present awards for Outstanding Presentation, Technician, Stage Manager, Volunteer, and the TNS Legacy Award, as well as the [Halifax] Mayor’s Awards for Achievement in Theatre and Emerging Artist and pay tribute to individuals who have made a lasting impression on this community.
