What: From Highland Arts Theatre: "As part of our bold Radical Access program, the Highland Arts Theatre in Sydney, NS is proud to launch a new national award for Canadian BIPOC playwrights, named after Rita Joe, one of the most esteemed writers of Cape Breton Isand/Unama’ki. Our 2021 winner will receive a $10,000 commission towards the writing of a new play or musical as well as dramaturgical and workshop support from the Highland Arts Theatre as part of our 2021 Playwrights Unit. All prizes and programming have been made possible through the HAT’s Radical Access Program, funded by the donations of thousands of supporters from across North America."
What: The Creative Equity Microgrants are offered to BIPOC writers and writers with disabilities to support paid writing time, development workshops or other necessary steps to take your performing arts project to the next level! Whether you need expenses covered for a month of writing time, a mentor for consistent feedback, or theatre space to dream and explore with collaborators, the Writers’ Circle Creative Equity program will support your artistic needs.
Microgrants range from $500-$4000. This application is open to BIPOC artists and/or artists living with disability. Artists must be based in or able to commute to Kjipuktuk/Halifax to take full advantage of the program.
This program is funded by the Canada Council for the Arts and organized by the Bus Stop Theatre Writer’s Circle.

What: The 2021-2022 Grants to Professional Arts Organizations Program is now open.The program has two funding streams, operating assistance and project assistance, and offers funding to registered not-for-profit professional arts organizations operating within the Halifax Regional Municipality.
